You can help to bring about change and advocate for important issues, such as affordable housing, innovative development, expanding diversity initiatives, and more. The application deadline to submit your application is March 3rd, so make sure you get your documents ready in time. Here are a few more reminders for the upcoming elections.

How to Apply

The candidate application is available for download here. The application is not complete and accepted without a signed original application, and your Candidate’s Statement is delivered electronically to the Village Manager’s Office via email at [email protected]

All candidate statements should be in a Microsoft Word format and no more than 150 words. If you live in a rental apartment in the Village of Town Center or a condo/townhouse/single-family house that you do not own, you must have a copy of a current lease agreement on file to participate in the Town Center Village election. Please email a copy to the Village Manager or drop it off at Historic Oakland, 5430 Vantage Point Road, Columbia, MD, no later than Friday, April 19 at 5 pm EST.

2024 Election Calendar

The application period for interested candidates is from February 16th to March 3rd. The deadline closes at noon sharp on March 3rd; no exceptions. If there is a contested election, a candidates forum will be held on April 4th from 7:15 pm to 8:45 pm to discuss each candidate at Historic Oakland Manor, or via Zoom. Election day is on April 20th.

How to Vote

Voting for the Village Board can be done one of three ways:

  • Electronically: an absentee ballot will be mailed to eligible residents. Unique ID numbers will be assigned to complete secure online voting, which closes at midnight 48 hours prior to election day.
  • Mail-in/Absentee Ballots: Must be postmarked by April 16 and received no later than April 20 by 12:00 p.m. at Historic Oakland to be counted.
  • In-Person: Ballots can be cast on Election Day, April 20, in-person at Historic Oakland from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. Voters must show a valid driver’s license, utility bill, or rental lease agreement for their condo, townhome, or apartment (no exceptions).

What Do Board Members Do?

All board members are responsible for governing the activities of the community association. All members must uphold the code set for them by the board and all applicable laws.
