Howard County Parks and Rec

Howard County Government, the Columbia Association, Howard County Public Schools, churches, and social services groups offer extensive recreational programs that are both free and paid. They offer programs for all ages, from 5 to 55! Some popular programs include sports, dance classes, fitness groups, and access to the many parks around Howard County. Nature Trails

In Columbia, there’s so much nature to explore in our own backyards. There are many beautiful walking trails and parks that are ideal for families. Most of these trails are relatively short, easy to navigate, and include kid-friendly features. The Lake Kittamaqundi loop is within walking distance of Whole Foods, the Central Library branch, Columbia Mall, and many restaurants with outdoor seating. At 1.4 miles long, it’s the perfect distance for kids to burn off energy, with a playground to play in afterward. Centennial Park has everything to make it the ideal park: lakes, wooded areas, open fields, sand volleyball courts, basketball courts, tennis courts, and a playground. The trail loop around the lake is 2.6 miles long but can be modified for younger kids.

Columbia Cleans

Join the Town Center Community Association, your friends, and neighbors for a community cleanup at the multi-use path around Lake Kittamaqundi. This is an excellent opportunity for residents, children, and youth organizations to help the community. All ages are welcome, but children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Participants should meet on the patio above the lakefront fountain near Millie Bailey Park and Whole Foods at 10:00 am.
