Practice Costume Safety with Your Children
Costumes are the highlight of Halloween, but they can pose safety risks. Encourage costumes that are easy to walk and see in, with no trailing fabrics that someone could trip over. Masks should allow for clear vision and easy breathing. You can also use makeup instead of masks for better visibility when possible. If your child is attending a party, make sure their costume does not have any pieces that stick out to avoid poking or a fire hazard. Candles are extra popular decorations in the fall, and it’s very easy for a child not to notice a piece of their costume sticking too close to a candle.
Check Your Candy
Your child is likely most excited about collecting candy, but it’s crucial to ensure it’s safe to eat. Inspect all candy and treats before allowing children to consume them. Discard any open or tampered packages.
